Palestinian woman who slapped IDF soldiers charged with assault

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A military court in Israel indicted a Palestinian woman who was filmed alongside her more famous cousin slapping and harassing IDF soldiers standing guard in a West Bank Palestinian village.

Nour Tamimi, 21, was indicted on Sunday on charges of aggravated assault of a soldier and preventing soldiers from carrying out their duties. She likely will remain in prison until the end of her legal case.

Israeli child whose parents were killed in Mumbai terror attack to return to their Chabad House

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The son of the Chabad emissaries killed in a 2008 terror attack in Mumbai will join Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a trip to India.

Moshe Holtzberg, 11, was three years old when his parents Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg were killed at the Nariman Chabad House in Mumbai when four terrorists entered and began shooting at those inside.  Four other Jewish visitors to the Chabad House were killed in the attack. Netanyahu: IDF has attacked 40 Hamas targets in Gaza in recent weeks

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shot back at critics who said his government has failed to take action to stop rocket fire from Gaza on southern Israel.

“Israel views Hamas as responsible for any firing at us from the Gaza Strip. Since we destroyed the terrorist tunnel that penetrated into our territory several weeks ago, the IDF has attacked approximately 40 Hamas targets including an additional attack by the air force last night,” Netanyahu said at the start of Sunday’s regular Cabinet meeting.

German foreign minister under fire for accusing Israel of ‘apartheid’

BERLIN (JTA) — German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel has come under fire for his suggestion that Israel pursues an “apartheid” policy.

Now, a Jewish woman in Cologne has addressed Gabriel in an open letter, demanding an apology for “providing further ammunition to youths who were fed anti-Semitism with their mothers’ milk,” according to a report in the German Jewish weekly, the Juedische Allgemeine.

As yet, there has been no such apology.

At issue is an event in Berlin in mid-December, at which Gabriel addressed the issue of anti-Semitism among Muslims in Germany, with a group of Muslim communal representatives.…

Florida police officer resigns during investigation over his anti-Semitic Facebook posts

(JTA) — A Florida police officer who was suspended with pay after complaints that he posted anti-Semitic comments on his Facebook page resigned from his post.

Officer Michael Hamill became well known in September after a selfie of him and two other Gainesville, Florida, police officers was posted on the department’s Facebook page, showing the officers helping the community in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

The photo received at least 181,000 comments, one calling the officers “hunkapotumuses,” and some 517,000 likes and 276,000 shares, the Gainesville Sun reported. Many online began referring to the officers as “hot cops.” The…
