Madonna Confirms She’ll Sing at Eurovision Finale

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Rest easy, Madonna fans, it’s official: The pop icon will sing at the Eurovision Song Contest finals in Tel Aviv.

She signed her contract on Thursday morning, two days before her performance, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster reported. Madonna is scheduled to perform two songs on Saturday night.

Jews Will Be Barred from Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Jews and tourists will be barred from visiting the Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day.

It reportedly will be the first time that the holiest site to Jews will be closed on the day marking the reunification of Jerusalem under Israeli control in 30 years.

The site is closed every year on the last days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which this year falls out at the same time as Jerusalem Day, which is on June 1.

Israelis on Memorial Day Mourn Nation’s 23,741 Soldiers Killed in Service

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israelis remembered their fallen soldiers and terror victims, coming to a standstill with the sounding of a siren marking the start of Yom Hazikaron, or Memorial Day.

Some 23,741 soldiers have died while serving in the Israel Defense Forces and its forerunners. Ninety-five names were added to the list this year, including 40 veterans who died of wounds sustained during their service. The list includes all the deaths from 1860 until today. The year 1860 marks the year in which the first Jewish neighborhood was established outside the Old City of Jerusalem.

Israeli Army Destroys Mile-long Hamas Tunnel Used to Target Southern Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Israeli army destroyed a tunnel built by the terrorist group Hamas that crossed from Gaza into Israel.

The tunnel, nearly a mile long, originated in the Khan Younis area of the central Gaza Strip and stretched more than 200 yards into Israeli territory. It branched off in several places to connect to the network of Hamas tunnels under Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces said, and was equipped with power and telephone lines.
